Ukraine attacked Makiivka, Russia claimed that 63 of its men were killed during a New Year’s Eve raid on a temporary barracks in the partially seized Donetsk region.
It added that Russian air defenses shot down two of the missiles, but four of them hit the building.
Online footage seemed to show a building in Russian-controlled Makiivka that was supposed to be a vocational college demolished to smoldering rubble.
The statement from the ministry came after the Strategic Communications Department of Ukraine’s armed forces announced late on Sunday that the attack resulted in the deaths of 400 Russian troops and the injuries of another 300.
