Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Silensky, has resigned from his post.
It was an apology for a controversial statement he made about a Russian missile attack on an apartment complex in Kiev that killed more than 40 people.
Hours after a missile struck an apartment building in Dnipro last Saturday, Olesky said the Russian missile appeared to have landed on the apartment complex after being shot down by Ukrainian security forces.
However, Ukrainian authorities later said that a Russian Kh-22 missile had hit the building and that it was not capable of being shot down.
Olesky, a high-ranking government official who was extremely popular on social media, spread like wildfire across the country, angering many Ukrainians.
And angry Ukrainians responded to the presidential adviser, accusing him of reinforcing Russia’s disinformation.
In the meantime, Ukrainian parliamentarians also protested against the presidential adviser and signed a petition asking him to be dismissed from public service.
Accordingly, the presidential adviser has decided to resign from his post, asking for forgiveness for the mistake he made.
