For the first time in history, a bee vaccination is available.
The United States has officially approved the use of the world’s first vaccine targeting bees. This is to control the ongoing decline in the bee population. This is the world’s first vaccine to reduce the extinction of bees.
Due to a bacteria that is spreading in America, the bee population in the country has been severely affected. Since 2006, it has been revealed that honey bee colonies in America have been decreasing annually.
Accordingly, this vaccine produced is to be injected into the queen area of the beehive. This is expected to destroy the bacteria that affect the bee population.
As pollinators, bees play a crucial role in maintaining the ecosystem. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, pollinators such as bees, birds and bats directly contribute to 1 in 3 of the world’s crop production.
